Life Rules: #2

Forgive Yourself

Everybody screws up. Not just once, or occasionally, but regularly, and often. For every good and productive thing we achieve, we fail in something else. Stop trying to change that. Our failures make us who we are every bit as much as our successes. Forgive yourself your shortcomings. Shoot for excellence, but not perfection. Be happy.

  1. This is well timed. I snapped at my sister over the weekend because I was impatient with someone else. I immediately realized what I’d done, apologized about it, and proceeded to sweat it for the better part of a day (“How could I?!”), regardless of that my sister and my S.O. had both told me to let it go . . . for what’s done cannot, in fact, be undone. It’s a little sad and a lot liberating to realize, albeit slowly! ๐Ÿ™‚

    • My D.H. is constantly telling me that we need to stop beating ourselves up for failing and start praising ourselves for trying again. If nothing else, your story serves to encourage others. You wouldn’t have wanted it to happen this way, but be happy that your comment inspires me! ๐Ÿ™‚
